From Film Threat’s review – “Freedom State” is not just a commentary on life, but a demonstration of the very loose definition of the word normal.
Shot in 2005, Freedom State was one of the first narrative productions to utilize the Varicam, provided by Koerner Camera, in the Pacific Northwest. Locations both scenic (Sauvie Island) and scary (Dammash Mental Hospital) added a rich texture to this quirky film.
Freedom State was selected for 8 film festivals and garnered numerous glowing reviews. Indie Slate wrote an article highlighting a financing method utilized by Producer Aaron Douglas, that was an Oregon first. The Oregonian says the film “looks great.” Thanks!
The film is available in it’s entirety on both Netflix and Hulu.
Director: Cullen Hoback
